From 1 July 2008, the Essential Services Commission (ESC) has approved an 8.8% (plus CPI) price rise per year until 2013 for Western Water. This is well below the 14.8% set for Melbourne's water businesses and the majority of other regional water businesses.
The price rise has been driven by significant population growth, the drought, and the need to secure sufficient water for the region for the future.
For a typical household in Western Water's service area, using approximately 170,000 litres per year, the price rise means they will pay an additional $79 during 2008/09. This equates to an additional $1.52 per week.
The tiered pricing structure will have a greater impact on the heaviest consumers of water and assists with water conservation efforts.
For those receiving a concession, The Department of Human Services has increased the amount by 14.8% plus CPI, or an additional $30 a year. Western Water also has a comprehensive policy for those experiencing hardship. Please contact us for a private consultation.
