What We Do
Our People
As at June 30 2007 we employed 113 people in a variety of professional, technical and administrative roles. This figure includes permanent, casual and temporary employees. Of these 56 per cent were men and 44 per cent were women. For more information on working at Western Water click here.
Our Stakeholders
Our customers, the community, staff, suppliers, and government are important contributors to our vision. Stakeholders are actively involved in our planning and decision making in several ways, such as through our Customer Advisory Group and Community Reference Groups. We also meet regularly with key stakeholders, such as the Department of Treasury and Finance and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.
Our Region
Western Water's region is a combination of urban and rural living, with a significant
proportion of land devoted to agricultural uses, particularly grazing and cropping.
Residential customers comprise 94 per cent of our customer base and rapid housing
development continued in our service area this year, contributing to a regional annual
growth rate of 4.2 per cent.
What We Do
We provide water and sewage services to more than 52,000 properties in an area of
3,000 square kilometres.
Water
Most of our water district is supplied by two main storages, Rosslynne Reservoir and Lake Merrimu. Southern Rural Water (SRW) harvests and stores the water and manages
these reservoirs. Western Water treats the water supplied by SRW for our customers.
These reservoirs supply the Melton and Bacchus Marsh (Merrimu) and Macedon
Ranges and Sunbury (Rosslynne) districts.
Western Water has access to a water allocation from the Yarra bulk entitlement, which draws on Melbourne water sources, to service these towns during the current period of prolonged drought. Woodend, Romsey, Lancefield and Myrniong have their own supply systems.
Sewage
Western Water operates seven recycled water plants, where sewage and trade waste
collected from domestic, commercial and industrial customers, is treated. In 2006/07, 84 per cent of sewage generated in our region was recycled. For more information on reycled water click here.
