Property Development Process

Planning Permit
All proposed property developments are subject to scrutiny by several authorities. These authorities may impose conditions, which must be met before the relevant municipality issues a planning permit that allows the developer to start work.

Planning Permit Conditions
Western Water also imposes conditions on planning permits. Some of these conditions include:

  • Restrictions on building in catchments
  • Connecting properties to water and sewer infrastructure
  • Placing easements on sewers if they run through private property. Any water mains that are planned to run through properties need to be relocated
  • Developer to design and build any extensions and to fund this work themselves
  • Developer to comply with any water restrictions.
