'Greywater' is the term given to all used water discharged from a house, except for toilet water.

Greywater includes shower, bath, hand basin, dishwasher, kitchen sink, washing machine and laundry tub water. This water is called 'grey' water because it turns grey if stored for a while.

With the continuing dry conditions, many people are looking at how they can use greywater to water their gardens.

Western Water has a booklet with lots of helpful information about greywater use in the garden, called Tap into Greywater. Email us to request a hard copy, or download it from this page.

Greywater can be a good water resource in dry periods but its reuse can carry health and environmental risks. Please visit the Environment Protection Authority  website for further information on the do's and don'ts of greywater reuse.
