Western Water delivered free water-saving kits and educational presentations to over 1,200 children who started school in 2008. The School Starter Program encourages young people to make water conservation a lifelong habit, and educates them about drinking water for health. The School Starter Program's success over several years highlights the relevance of waterwise education at an early age. The program is growing in popularity every year, and Western Water is committed to its continuation. Prep students enrolled in participating schools received a free School Starter's Kit containing fun and educational activity sheets, a water bottle, and water-saving aids: a shower timer, a cup for teeth-brushing, and a plug to fit any sink. The free presentation introduced the water cycle, with important messages about water conservation and healthy hydration. Students also met Western Water's mascot, Sammy the Snake, and were invited to join Sammy's Waterwise Club.
