Bushfires and your water supply

Adopt a hydrant

In the event of a fire it is essential that firefighters have quick and easy access to water from the nearest fire hydrant.

Together with the CFA, Western Water asks that you "adopt a hydrant" and help maintain access at all times.

Simply keep an eye on the hydrant closest to your property - located on or near a nature strip either at or above ground level. All hydrants should be marked with blue reflective road markers.

It is important that hydrants are kept clear and visible at all times. You can assist in maintaining the hydrant nearest your property by:

  • Clearing soil, grass and shrubs from around the hydrant
  • Keeping vehicles clear of the hydrant
  • Reporting any visible faults, damage or missing marker posts to your local Council, or Western Water on 1300 650 422.
